Ms. Fortunato is an honors graduate of Rhode Island College and received her law degree from New England School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts. She is admitted to practice in the New Jersey State and Federal District Courts.
While in law school, Ms. Fortunato was the Managing Literary Editor for the Journal on Criminal and Civil Confinement. She served as a student attorney for the Rhode Island Public Defender's Office representing clients accused of various misdemeanor crimes in Rhode Island District Court.
After graduating from law school, Ms. Fortunato was Law Clerk to the Honorable Eugene H. Austin, J.S.C. (Criminal Division) prior to her clerking with the Rem Zeller Law Group. While at Rem Zeller she worked in the areas of criminal and immigration law. She focused on appellate law including appeals to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). One of the appeals she worked on in the Third Circuit had a favorable result when the Court vacated an order of removal and remanded the matter back to the Immigration Court for a new hearing. In another matter she was involved in, the New Jersey Supreme Court held that criminal defendants have the right to be at side bar when selecting a jury.
She also previously was a Motion Paralegal with the office of Marie-Ann Greenberg, Chapter 13 Standing Trustee, working in the area of consumer bankruptcy.
Ms. Fortunato joined the Law Offices of Mark Goldman in April 2005 as an Associate and became a partner in 2008. The majority of her work involves representing consumer-debtors in the areas a Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases.
She is a graduate of Max Gardner's Bankruptcy Boot Camp and has obtained mortgage loan modifications as a result of boot camp experience. In addition, she is currently handling state foreclosure mediation cases.
Ms. Fortunato is currently a Barrister of the Bankruptcy Inn of Court. She has been a panelist at the New Jersey Bankruptcy Practice Seminar organized by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE).
In addition, she is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and has attended their annual convention for the last four years.
Ms. Fortunato is happily married with an infant son who keeps her very busy. She enjoys spending time at the shore and loves to scrapbook.
