Bankruptcy: A remedy for those falling for credit card traps

New Jersey consumers who find themselves overwhelmed by debt may be fending off harassment by debt collectors. Unfortunately, many people fall into the traps set by credit card companies. These companies rely on consumers to accumulate credit card debt because the interest they charge on unpaid balances is what ensures a significant part of their profits. Many consumers who experience financial difficulties due to the use of credit cards have turned to the bankruptcy court in order to confront the issue responsibly.

Consumers need to be selective when seeking debt relief help

It is not uncommon for New Jersey consumers to find themselves overwhelmed with debts after unforeseen expenses, job losses or other causes. There is nothing wrong with seeking help with debt relief, but the companies from whom help is sought must be carefully scrutinized. The marketing of debt settlement companies can be misleading and often omits important information.

Spiraling credit card debt can be difficult to avoid

One of the most unenviable positions for New Jersey consumers to be in is being caught in a spiral of debt. This type of dilemma is often caused by emergencies such as unanticipated medical needs or job losses that necessitate spending on credit cards. Unfortunately, by the time the alarm bells go off, the debt may be already overwhelming. Depending on the severity of the situation, there may be remedial steps that can be taken to address credit card debt.

New Jersey diner closes doors with Chapter 7 bankruptcy

The residents of Williamstown Township in New Jersey are mourning the closure of a diner that was part of their lives for decades. The doors closed recently after a federal bankruptcy court converted the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy to Chapter 7 and ordered it to close. This will lead to liquidation of assets.

Debt relief: Be cautious when choosing debt settlement services

When New Jersey consumers are overcome by debt due to job losses, medical emergencies or other reasons, they may be considering the available options to remedy the situations. One of the frequently advertised options for debt relief is debt settlement but, unfortunately, many of these operators conduct unsavory practices that could lead to even more debt. Weighing the pros and cons of debt settlement may be best done under the guidance of legal counsel.
